Ever wondered what Chabad really is? What it stands for? And what are its core teachings? In 1796, the early Hassidic master Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi, the "Alter Rebbe," unlocked the flood-gates to the esoteric teachings of Kabbalah (Jewish Mysticism) with the publication of the Tanya. Its purpose: to peal away the damp layers of the soul so that the soul's natural fire, its love for God, burns hotly and blazes brightly. Veteran Tanya scholars R' Dr Immanuel Schochet, R' Manis Friedman, and R' Tzvi Freeman lead us into the heart of the flame. Produced in 2006 for CTS by M. Kigel and Chabad Lubavitch of Ontario. An analysis of Chochmah (Wisdom), Binah (Understanding) and Daat (Knowledge) with Rabbi Dr Immanuel Schochet, author of The Mystical Dimension, The Great Maggid, Mashiach, and many other works in English and Hebrew. From chapter 3 of the Tanya : The intellect includes three all-inclusive intellectual powers, namely Chochmah, Binah and Daat (ChaBaD), whilst the soul's character traits, which bear the same names as their corresponding seven Sefirot, namely Chesed, Gevurah, etc., represent the following emotions: love of God, dread and awe of Him, glorification of Him, and so forth. Love corresponds to Hesed (kindness), as they are, respectively, the internal (i.e., emotional) and external (i.e., practical) aspects of the same trait; the dread and awe of God correspond to Gevurah (might), as they are its inner aspect; so too the glorification of Him corresponds to Tiferet. ChaBaD are called the "mothers" and source of the emotional character traits, for the middot are "offspring" of ChaBaD.
