Rav Saadia Gaon in his enumeration of ten ideas to think about when hearing the shofar on Rosh Hashanah (and by extension during the whole month of Elul) lists the shofar at Sinai. These ten things appear in the ArtScroll machzor of Rosh Hashanah immediately preceding blowing the shofar.

This video explains the depths of the experience at Sinai and by association the experience of hearing the shofar on Rosh Hashanah. In essence the experience at Sinai is meant to be reproduced during the hearing of the shofar.
