Chabad Emissaries Celebrate The Lubavitcher Rebbe! 36 years ago (as of April 2008), at a special Farbrengen gathering to celebrate his 70th birthday, The Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, asked his followers to establish 71 new Chabad educational and outreach institutions. At the Farbrengen, West Coast Chabad-Lubavitch immediately made a commitment to The Rebbe to open at least 10 percent of the new centers. The very next day, the first of these new institutions -- the Chabad House in Berkley, CA -- was launched in The Rebbe's office at 770 Eastern Parkway in a private audience with his emissaries on the West Coast, Rabbi Shmuel Dovid haLevi Raichik OBM, and Rabbi Boruch Shlomo Eliyohu Cunin, Director of West Coast Chabad-Lubavitch. This special "Shnas Hashiv'im" initiative launched by The Rebbe in connection with his seventieth birthday contributed to the phenomenal growth of the worldwide Chabad-Lubavitch movement. One year ago, at the 2007/5767 West Coast Chabad-Lubavitch annual convention, Rabbi Boruch Shlomo Eliyohu Cunin, The Rebbe's Head Emissary on the West Coast, announced a plan to commemorate the 36th anniversary of "Shnas Hashiv'im" by bringing 36 new Chabad-Lubavitch emissaries to the region in the coming year. West Coast Chabad-Lubavitch is now proud to introduce the 36 new emissaries who are part of this initiative, serving communities large and small with dedication to traditional Judaism and the fulfillment the Rebbe's vision. May the holy work of The Rebbe's emissaries merit the coming of Moshiach Now!
