About This File
INNTV spoke with David Landau the Israeli Correspondent for The Economist and the former Editor-in-Chief of the Haaretz newspaper regarding the session he attended “Should the Jewish World be Re-Organized?” The Presidential Conference organizers wrote the following regarding the session: “Jewish organizations fulfill an array of functions: they provide a framework for community life, build bridges between Israel and the Diaspora, fight anti-Semitism, act as political lobbies, provide for Jewish education, assist those in need, and much more. These activities are admirable, enviable and often replicated by many other organizations around the world. Among Jews however, criticism has been expressed regarding the quality of organizations’ functioning and sometimes their tendency towards internal fighting. Is the Jewish organizational map at its optimum, or can the Jewish world be better organized to provide a more effective framework and identity for a larger number of Jews? Should we be striving for more cooperation and coordination between the different organizations and what adjustments are needed in the Jewish organizational framework to meet the challenges of our times?”
