Imagine your tiny country being invaded by murderous armies right in the middle of the holiest day of the year - a fast day of repentance. This is what happened to Israel in 1973 and this documentary film is about her miraculous victory. Superb and rare archive film footage.

Flight to Israel Air France Film 1951

This is a neat 30-minute film made by Air France (but in English) to promote Israel in 1951. Clearly a more Israel-friendly France existed at that time targeting American Jews looking to visit the newly-forming State of Israel. Wonderful images!

Israel Birth Of A Nation Film Pt 1

"Israel: Birth of a Nation" (Part 1 of 9 - English with Hebrew subtitles) - A prestige film production of the History Channel. Israel declared its sovereignty on May 14, 1948. A day later it was invaded on four fronts by the armies of Lebanon, Syria, Transjordan, Egypt and Iraq. They all promised, in the words of Azzam Pasha, Secretary-General of the Arab League, "a war of extermination and a momentous massacre". Against the well-equipped Arab armies stood poorly armed Jewish forces dedicated to protecting a country whose population totaled just 650,000 men, women and children. Not only did Israel's young soldiers stop the Arab onslaught, but - with more bravery than bullets - they went on to create a military triumph that ensured the survival of the new Jewish State. This is a unique chronicle of that incredible victory. It is the story of courage and determination in the face of impossible odds. It is the saga of a people who finally returned to their homeland after 2,000 years. Showing the dramatic days that surrounded the birth of the fledgling nation, this movie includes rare material, a unique film by a British Mandate soldier, footage of Ben Gurion at the Declaration of Independence, scenes from the war as well as interviews with those who actually fought in it. Without doubt this extraordinary movie, produced by the History Channel, is the definitive document of one of the remarkable turning points in modern history.

Very Dangerous Job Israeli Busdriver

NO SAFE PLACE - "A Dangerous Job" - Rony Plaut drives a bus on a very dangerous route in Israel. He often wonders if the next passenger will be a suicide bomber. Despite the high risk involved with riding buses in Israel today, Rony says he will continue driving, but his wife Orly, and their three children live in constant fear and worry. Although Rony has been driving for twenty years, he admits that times have changed in Israel and he is scared. "No Safe Place" examines six families whose lives were torn apart by terrorism. Narrated by Emmy Award winning actor Kelsey Grammer, this gripping documentary tells the powerful story of men, women and children who happen to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. In Israel it's not a matter of if, but when another terror strike will happen. This is the reality that Israelis face everyday as they go to work, send their children to school on buses or sit in a cafe and wonder if they are safe, if their life is in danger. This award-winning documentary from JTN Productions provides a powerful look beyond the headlines into how terrorism impacts and rips apart individuals and their families.

Sixty-Six Movie First Five Minutes

"SIXTY SIX" (first five minutes of this great comedy movie) - England, the summer of '66 and the country is about to be consumed by World Cup Fever. For 12-year-old Bernie (Sulkin), the biggest day of his life is looming, the day he becomes a man - his Bar Mitzvah. However Bernie's North London family seems a little distracted. His father Manny (Eddie Marsan) is concerned about the giant supermarket opening opposite his grocery shop, a business he shares with his more charismatic younger brother, Jimmy (Serafinowicz) - and it's making Manny's bizarre obsessive compulsive disorder even worse than usual. Between worrying about Manny and Bernie's older brother Alvie, mother Esther (Bonham Carter) barely has time to notice her better behaved younger son, and the only attention Bernie ever gets from Alvie is a punch for stepping onto the wrong side of their shared bedroom. Bernie believes his Bar Mitzvah is about to change all this. He'll no longer be the kid everyone ignores, and he envisions and begins to plan the perfect ceremony and reception, where everyone assembled will acknowledge his new status as a man. Unfortunately for Bernie, things don't quite go according to plan!

Ushpizin Complete Movie Hebrew 1

USHPIZIN (Complete in Hebrew - Part 1 of 2 - runtime 46:53) - A Warmhearted, Upbeat Fable in an Exotic Setting - the award-winning Ushpizin (2004) is a pleasant little film that takes place in an ultra-Orthodox community in modern-day Jerusalem, but its message is universal. The dialogue is in Hebrew, and the DVD provides English and Spanish subtitles. The story is about the clash between the religious and the secular, but what I like best about the movie is its humanism. The central character in Ushpizin is Moshe Bellanga (Shuli Rand), a Hasidic Jew who is married to Malli (played by Shuli's wife Michal Bat-Sheva Rand). Moshe and Malli are poor, but they take comfort in their religion, which places an emphasis on spirituality and joy. They are strongly committed to their marriage of nearly five years, but it is a matter of paramount concern to them that they have no child. When the film opens, Moshe and Malli are in dire financial straits. They're ducking their landlord and running low on food. But a charity picks them at random and anonymously delivers to them a thousand American dollars in cash. In the Bellangas' world-view, the money represents a miracle in answer to their prayers. The story is set during the festival of Sukkot, when each family in the Bellangas' community uses materials like plywood and palm fronds to make a temporary structure called a sukkah. During a week-long celebration, each family spends a lot of time inside their sukkah, and it's considered a blessing to entertain guests there. That's why Moshe is at first delighted when an old pal from his past unexpectedly drops by, accompanied by a friend, and he invites them to stay in his sukkah. However, the guests, who are escaped convicts and very secular, are so inconsiderate that they put stress on Moshe and Malli's marriage and threaten the harmony of the entire neighborhood. But the Bellangas try to be hospitable toward their rude guests anyway, believing that their faith is being tested.

Ushpizin Complete Movie Hebrew 2

USHPIZIN (Complete in Hebrew - Part 2 of 2 - runtime 45:37) - A Warmhearted, Upbeat Fable in an Exotic Setting - the award-winning Ushpizin (2004) is a pleasant little film that takes place in an ultra-Orthodox community in modern-day Jerusalem, but its message is universal.

"They Didn't Shoot Today" is now a piece of Gush Katif history. The film was produced by the girls' Ulpana (high school) at the height of the intifada. It tells about the living conditions of the residents of Kfar Darom and the bravery of the children under fire. And after 30+ years of sustaining the brave battle and raising the finest Jewish communities imaginable, all this was wiped out in just a few days by the drunken and cruel expulsion/destruction in summer 2005.

An American Tail Animated Scene

Jewish movie director icon Steven Spielberg's "An American Tail," with a family of Russian mice, a gang of rats and a cockroach in a cameo appearance, is the amazing storyteller's first animated feature. It's a melting-pot movie for little Americans, full of immigrant dreams. Director Don Bluth and a cadre of other Disney emigres create this classically drawn and effect-filled tale whose characters themselves are refugees. A family of Russian mice flee the Cossacks for the cobblestones of New York. There's lots of music, mostly mild-mannered, to sweeten this rather serious story by "Sesame Street" writers Tony Geiss and Judy Freudberg. All the better to understand the mighty motivations of young Fievel, who's separated from the Mousekewitz family on the voyage to America. Luckily, Fievel (the voice of seven-year-old Phillip Glasser) washes into New York Harbor safe in a bottle. It's 1885, and the teeming shores are ethnically diverse, with mice from many lands seeking the American dream. Bluth and company recreate the tenements, the sweat shops, the harbor as it was 100 years ago. Fievel is rescued by the French pigeon Henri (Christopher Plummer), who is overseeing the completion of the Statue of Liberty, the Lady without her face on. Henri takes Fievel under his wing, restores his flagging spirits and sends him on his search for his family. Fievel, named for Spielberg's granddad, is also aided by Tiger, a splendid pussycat played by adorable Dom DeLuise; Gussie Mausheimer, a lisping anti-cat activist acted by madcap Madeline Kahn; and Honest John, a shady Tammany Hall boss played by crusty Neil Ross. Papa and Mama Mousekewitz are performed by Nehemiah Persoff and Erica Yohn, who had personal links with their roles, both being offspring of Russian-Jewish parents. "An American Tail" is a bright-eyed tale of Jewish triumphs that will find a place in many young hearts.

He is rescued by a Greek geologist, Athos Roussos, who adopts him and takes him to live on Zakynthos in Greece. After the war the pair immigrate to Toronto.
Operation Grandma Israeli Cult Film 99

Mivtza Savta ("Operation Grandma" - 50 minutes) is an Israeli cult film directed by Dror Shaul and released in 1999. The film is a satirical comedy about the Israeli military and kibbutz life. The story revolves around Alon (34), a no-nonsense Israeli Army officer, Benni (30), a brilliant electrician, and Idan (22), a wimpy field trip guide. The film is told from Idan's POV. Three brothers try to bury their beloved grandmother in the kibbutz cemetery. Because Alon has a secret security operation set for that same day, they have to work on a tight schedule, so he plans it like a military operation, hence the title. A series of mistakes and mishaps complicate things. The story takes place in Israel, in the fictional kibbutz "Asisim". Much of the humour is culturally untranslatable, involving very specific aspects of Israeli life and culture: the kibbutz, foreign volunteers, army life, school-trips and Tel-Aviv. Alon 'Krembo' Sagiv - Rami Hueberger. Benni Sagiv - Ami Smolartchik. Idan Sagiv - Tzach Spitzen. (HEBREW LANGUAGE)

Krav Maga Israeli Martial Arts Film

Krav Maga Documentary Film - History Channel - 38 min. (Hebrew: "close combat") is an eclectic self-defense and military hand-to-hand combat system developed in Israel, which assumes no quarter will be given, and emphasizes maximum threat neutralization in a "real life" context. It came to prominence following its adoption by various Israeli Security Forces. In Krav Maga, there are no hard-and-fast rules, and no distinction in training for men and women It is not a sport, and there are no specific uniforms, attire or competitions, although some organizations recognise progress through training with rank badges and different levels. All the techniques focus on maximum efficiency in real-life conditions. Krav Maga generally assumes that the individual attacking will give no quarter; therefore, as a response the attacks and defenses are intended only for use in potentially lethal threat situations with the aim to neutralize and escape as rapidly and safely as possible. Crippling attacks to vulnerable body parts, including groin and eye strikes, headbutts, and other efficient and potentially brutal attacks, improvised use of any objects available, and maximizing personal safety in a fight, are emphasized. However, it must be stressed that instructors can and do demonstrate how to moderate the techniques to fit the circumstances. While no limits are placed on techniques to be used in life-threatening situations, the legal need to inflict the appropriate minimal damage in other circumstances is recognized and stressed.

The motion picture that dramatized the Biblical story of Moses, an adopted Egyptian prince-turned deliverer of the Hebrew slaves. It was released by Paramount Pictures in VistaVision on October 5, 1956. It was directed by Cecil B. DeMille and starred Charlton Heston in the lead role. Robinson as Dathan, Yvonne De Carlo as Sephora, Cedric Hardwicke as Pharaoh Seti I, Vincent Price as Baka, and John Carradine as Aaron. This was the last film that Cecil DeMille directed. The Ten Commandments is partially a remake of DeMille's 1923 silent film. Some of the cast and crew of the 1956 version worked on the original. It has since been remade again as a television miniseries broadcast in April 2006. Adjusted for inflation, it is the fifth-highest grossing movie of all time domestically, with collections of $838,400,000. In 1999, The Ten Commandments was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".
Labor Of Thy Hands Israel 1950s

Labor of Thy Hands (ca. mid 1950s) - Produced for American audiences. Describes how Israel is a democracy just like the United States. This 1950s film, made by Hadassah, the womens Zionist organization, tells us about the various vocational training programs the organization funds in Israel, and how they are bringing new hope to young people who previously had none. The Holocaust casts a long shadow on this film, though it is never explicitly mentioned. But there are all kinds of hints that the young people we see learning various job skills are mostly concentration camp survivors who not long ago had no reason to believe they would have any future at all. This lends the film a hopeful quality, as we see them given help to rebuild their lives. Unfortunately, viewed from todays perspective, an even bigger shadow is cast by the long history of war, violence, and terrorism that we now know was just around the corner for Israel. Still, you cannot blame the makers of this film for not being psychic, and viewed in the context of this time, it is one of the best, most respectful, and most realistic of the good works films that was produced, resisting the temptation to portray the recipients of its charity as pitiful, or to constantly shill for more money.

The film was, however, never used for its intended purpose. The 1945 propaganda documentary film directed by Frank Capra, Like its companion film, 'Know Your Enemy: Japan', is a full-length exploration of why one of the two major Axis countries started World War II and what had to be done to keep them from "doing it again".

Fiddler On The Roof Movie Part 3 of 3

FIDDLER ON THE ROOF (Part Three of Three - 62 minutes long) is the 1971 film version of the Broadway musical of the same name. It was directed by Norman Jewison. The film won three Academy Awards, including one for arranger-conductor John Williams. It was nominated for several more, including Best Picture, Best Actor for Chaim Topol as Tevye, and Best Supporting Actor for Leonard Frey, who played Motel the Tailor (both had originally acted in the musical; Topol as Tevye in the London production and Frey in a minor part as the rabbi's son). The decision to cast Topol as Tevye instead of Zero Mostel was a somewhat controversial one, as the role had originated with Mostel and he had made it famous.

Recording was done at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, England. Most of the exterior shots were done in Croatia: in Mala Gorica, Lekenik, and Zagreb.

The film follows the plot of the stage play very closely, although it omits the songs "Now I Have Everything" and "The Rumor". It takes place in the Jewish village of Anatevka in Tsarist Russia in 1905 and centers on the character of Tevye, a poor milkman, and his daughters' marriages. As Tevye says in the introductory narration, the Jews have relied upon their traditions to maintain the stability of their way of life for centuries; but as times change, that stability is threatened on the small scale by Tevye's daughters' wishes to marry men not chosen in the traditional way by the matchmaker, and on the large scale by pogroms and revolution in Russia.
Fiddler On The Roof Movie Part 2 of 3

FIDDLER ON THE ROOF (Part Two of Three - 59 minutes long) is the 1971 film version of the Broadway musical of the same name.

Relentless Jihad Complete Movie

Relentless: The Struggle for Peace in the Middle East (2003)- 62 minutes. Producers: Raphael Shore, Pael Seidman of Honest Reporting. Directors: Wayne Kopping, Brian K. Spector. "Relentless" uses primary source video clips to examine the history of the Mideast conflict and how the Oslo peace process unraveled in a surge of violence. Interviews with relatives of Jewish victims of palestinian terrorism, clips from palestinian TV encouraging terrorism and footage of viciously anti-Semitic sermons broadcast from palestinian mosques allow Americans to understand and contextualize the struggle for safety and peace in the Middle East. This is a one-hour, must-see docu-film about what Israel and the West are facing today.

Prince of Egypt Movie 10

PRINCE OF EGYPT (PART 10 of 10) - The Prince of Egypt is a 1998 Academy Award-winning American animated film, the first traditionally animated film produced and released by DreamWorks. The story follows the life of Moses from his birth, through his childhood as a prince of Egypt and finally to his ultimate destiny to lead the Hebrew slaves out of Egypt, which is based on the second of the Five Books of Moses, Exodus.

Directed by Brenda Chapman, Simon Wells and Steve Hickner, the film featured songs written by Stephen Schwartz and a score composed by Hans Zimmer. The voice cast featured a number of major Hollywood actors in the speaking roles, while professional singers replaced them for the songs. The exceptions, however, were Michelle Pfeiffer, Ralph Fiennes, Steve Martin, and Martin Short, who sang their own parts.

The film was nominated for best score and won for Best Original Song at the 1999 Academy Awards for "When You Believe". The pop version of the song was performed at the ceremonies by Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. The song, co-written by Stephen Schwartz, Hans Zimmer and with additional production by Babyface, was nominated for the Best Original Song (Motion Picture) at the 1999 Golden Globes, and was also nominated for Outstanding Performance of a Song for a Feature Film at the ALMA Awards. The movie went on to gross $218,613,188 worldwide.

Joseph King of Dreams 8

Joseph: King of Dreams (Part 8 of 8) is an DreamWorks direct-to-video animated film based on the story of Joseph in chapters 37-50 of the book of Genesis in the Bible. An amazing animation in eight parts (this is the final segment) portraying the Biblical epic of life of Joseph, from birth to his sale at this brother's hands, to becoming head of Egypt. Great for all ages! Movie Summmary: Based on the well-known story which, in terms of religion, is known to be taken from the book of Genesis, 'King of Dreams' centers on the life of Joseph, a "miracle child" with the gift of interpreting dreams. Because he was born to a barren woman, his parents dubbed him such and he quickly became the favorite of his father, Jacob, much to the envy of his ten older brothers. After Jacob gives Joseph a beautiful coat; and after Joseph shares his dreams of the brothers bowing down to him, they decide that they've had enough of it. So one unseemingly unsuspecting day, they gang up on Joseph and sell him to slave traders, who, in turn, take him to faraway Egypt. There, he is sold to Potiphar, the captain of Pharaoh's army. Even as a slave, Joseph continues to stand out because of his hard work and Potiphar eventually comes to notice this. As a result, he puts Joseph in charge of his entire household. It is also here where Joseph meets Asenath, his first love interest. Potiphar's wife also notices Joseph, but in a romantic manner. One night, after attempting to "approach" him, he refuses her company and he is falsely accused of harming her. Because of this, he is thrown into prison by Potiphar. There, he meets the Pharaoh's baker and butler, whose dreams he interprets. After they are released, Joseph is left there for a few more years until one day when Potiphar released him because Pharaoh needs him to interpret a dream that has been torturing him lately - as he heard from his butler. Joseph interprets Pharaoh's dreams which resemble a famine of Egypt, and because of this Pharaoh puts Joseph in charge of the whole country and makes him the second most powerful man in the land. From here, Joseph meets Asenath again and they marry; and afterwards, he prepares the country for the famine. It is during this time when he is reunited with his brothers who come to Egypt for food. After scheming up a way to reveal himself to them, as well as meeting his new brother Benjamin, Joseph finally confesses himself after placing his cup in Benjamin's sack after a banquet; and there a heartwarming exchange of apologies and forgiveness occurs. Afterwards, Joseph invites his whole family to live in Egypt and is reunited with his father once more. From there, the next big thing, 'The Prince of Egypt,' begins.

Pillar of Fire Movie 5

"Pillar of Fire" narrated by Sir Ian McKellen. Part 5 of 7. From the dream of the Jewish People's return to Zion to the Establishment of the State of Israel. This masterpiece production features rare documentary footage collected from more than 30 archives and private collections throughout the world, as well as many eye-witness interviews of Arabs, Jews and other nationalities. When PILLAR OF FIRE premiered on Britains Channel Four Television, Jeremy Isaacs, the stations Chief Executive, hailed it as one of the decades greatest achievements in world broadcasting. Episode 1: "The Jew Returns The Arab Awakens 1895-1920" The outbreak of anti-Semitism at the end of the 19th century arouses the dream of return to the Homeland of the Jewish people, which, in turn, triggers an Arab national awakening. Episode 2: "The Dream 1914-1929" Jewish pioneers arrive from Europe to Palestine and attain fruition of their utopian ideals in agricultural settlements such as the Kibbutz. Episode 3 (this segment): "The Rise and Fall of German Jews 1919-1937" The Jews of Germany enjoyed freedom and prosperity following WWI until Hitlers rise to power set off a mass emigration to Palestine triggering waves of violence between Arabs and Jews. Episode 4: "Whos Afraid of a Jewish State? 1937-1939" When Nazi power peaks, fleeing Jews are refused refuge by any country. Britain abolishes the partition plan of Palestine and issues the anti-Zionist White Paper. Episode 5: "Holocaust 1939-1945" Facing a common enemy, Palestinian Jews aid the British army against the Nazis in North Africa, but when the war is over they become the forgotten ally. Episode 6: "Exodus 1945-1947" After the war, Jewish Holocaust survivors are denied a home in any country, including Palestine. Their resistance to the British Mandate leads to the partition of Palestine between Jews and Arabs.
The Forgotten Refugees

In 1945, there were up to one million Jews living in the Middle East and North Africa outside the Palestine Mandate - many living in communities dating back more than three millennia. Today, there are several thousand. Who are these Jews? What precipitated their mass-exodus in the 20th century? Where did they go? And why don't we know their stories? Film on Jewish Refugees from Arab/Islamic countries wins “Best Documentary” at Marbella Film Festival. The film, produced by the Boston based David Project Center for Jewish Leadership, chronicles the impact of the Arab Muslim conquest, the resulting oppression of non Muslims under Dhimmitude, the development of Judeo-Arab culture, and the modern rise of Arab nationalism that drove out hundreds of thousands of Jews from their homes and communities, some of which had existed for over 2,500 years. “This destruction, a significant loss for the Jewish people and for the Middle East, has been generally ignored,” said Charles Jacobs, David Project President. “The generation of Jews who lived and were forced out of their homes in Arabia and Iran is aging and we wanted to do something to capture their personal stories before it was too late,” he said. The film features testimony from Jews who fled Egypt, Libya, Iraq, Yemen, Morocco and Iran, and explores the rich heritage these age-old Jewish communities. Personal stories of refugees are interspersed with dramatic archival footage, including the mission to rescue Yemenite Jews. “The film represents a unique approach to educating the public about an integral but little known aspect of Middle East history,” said Jacobs.
