In this rare and remarkable pre-Holocaust photo, the great Rabbi Yisroel Meir Kagan, better known for his epic work of halacha (Jewish law)- Chofetz Chaim, which took him 28 years to compose. Since he passed away in late 1933, this photo is likely from the the late 1920s or 1930s. The Chofetz Chaim (translation: 'he who desires life') is sitting in the doorway of a simple house providing guidance to the besieged Jewish communities of early 20th century Europe.
